Proper Candle Care
Proper candle care is essential to maintaining a well burning, safe candle. Rebel and Eve's hand poured candles have went through extensive testing, but proper care is still critical to your success. I have a candle care guide attached, but let's go through each step.
-To prevent tunneling, allow enough time for the wax to melt completely forming a pool to the edge. These candles are made primarily of coconut wax with small amounts of vegetable wax and paraffin. This leads to a pretty slow burn. It may take a few times of lighting your candle to fully reach all of the edges of your jar, this is completely normal, and welcome! This ensures the jar does not overheat, but it is really just the nature of the wax.
-Trim the wick to 1/4" length each time before you light the candle. This is probably one of the most important, if not THE most important part of proper burning of your candle. Trimming the wick allows for a fresh start each time you light the candle. A longer wick creates a larger flame, which could potentially become dangerous. It is completely normal for there to be mushrooming on your wick after a long burn, but you need to cut it back to 1/4" prior to your next burn each time.
-Do not burn your candles for more than 4 hours at a time. This point is also incredibly important. Burning your candles for longer than 4 hours can create the mushrooming that I wrote about above. It can also result in the jar getting too hot. Give your candles time to rest and re-harden before relighting them.
-Never leave a burning candle unattended. Candles are an open flame, and need to be treated seriously and with caution. As with any open flame, never leave unattended.
-Never put out a candle with water. Water will cause a reaction with the candle wax and fragrance, and it looks like the equivalent of dropping a frozen turkey in a deep fryer. Absolutely never put out your candle with water. If you need to quickly put out a large flame, place the lid back on the jar, use a fire extinguisher, or smother the flame.
-Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets. Pets and children may not realize that this is an open flame, and kids notoriously like to be like mom and dad, and if they see you light a candle, they may want to light the candle too. Never leave your candle in an area that your children could reach to prevent fire damage as well as damage to your children and pets with burning hot wax.
-Place your candle on a stable surface away from flammable objects before lighting. This includes windows with drafts coming in, curtains, dried flowers, or paper material. Do not place your candles on a wood surface, as the jars can get hot and could potentially burn a ring into the surface. Do not place your candles directly on a glass surface. Heat can cause glass to spontaneously shatter. We recommending placing the lids underneath the candles to protect your surfaces.
-Discontinue use when your wax level reaches 1/2" in the bottom of the jar. Burning the candle lower could cause the bottom of the jar to become hot and burn your surfaces.
